A tombstone from 1890 washed up on Ocean Beach recently, and the denizens of the Mission Mission comments section took a brief time-out from their ongoing roundtable discussion of the causes of gentrification in SF to do some pretty great research into who Delia Presby Oliver actually was. So far: death notice, information about the family, partial genealogy through the mid-20th century, plus the probable reason why the thing was in the water to begin with. It’s a pretty good read.
